File menu

The file menu provides access to main file operations.  The use of the Open / Save File and Template screens is described in the section ‘Saving and Opening Files and Templates’.

New

This will create a new project based on the standard Prodev template.

New As Metric

The default setting for build and sale units is imperial measurement and annual rentals.  The New as Metric menu displays a pop-out menu allowing you to create a new appraisal in a format more suited to European projects, the options for which are:

Open File

Opens an existing file.  The Open File Dialog Box displays so that you can browse for the file you want and then open it.  The actual operation of the Open File Dialog Box is described in the section ‘Saving and Opening Files and Templates’.

Open Template

This creates a new project based on an existing template that you have previously prepared and saved.  Whereas Prodev's default template is blank, creating a new project based on an existing template allows you to define common titles and values.  The Open Template Dialog Box displays so that you can browse for the template you want then use it.  More information on creating and using templates can be found in the section ‘Saving and Opening Files and Templates’.

Save File

Saves the current project using its existing filename, unless it is being saved for the first time, in which case Prodev will display the Save File Dialog Box and prompt you for a filename.  The actual operation of the Save File Dialog Box is described in the section ‘Saving and Opening Files and Templates’.

Save File As

This will display the Save File Dialog Box which allows you to save a file using the filename and / or location of your choice and choose whether to save it as a file or template.  This the same as Save File (described above) except that the Save File Dialog Box will always display prior to saving.

Print/Preview

Displays the full appraisal and cashflow report.  When it is displayed you can change the page layout, printer settings, title and notes.  You can print it and also export the report to Microsoft Excel or Word.  See the section ‘Viewing, Printing and Exporting Reports’ for further information.

Restore Screen Position

Restores the Prodev program window size to its default, based on the type of monitor you are using.

Exit

Closes the program.  You will be prompted to save your project if changes have been made.

Reset Recent File List

Prodev will keep track of the files that you have most recently opened and display them at the bottom of the File menu.  You can quickly refer to a recent project by opening it directly from the File menu without having to use the File Open Dialog.  The Reset Recent File List option removes this list from the File menu; subsequently opened files will then add themselves to this list.
