System requirements To load and run Prodev version 4 you need Windows 98, NT4, ME, XP, 2000 or higher. Prodev requires a Pentium class computer (500+ MHz) or equivalent with a minimum of 64MB memory and takes up 25MB of disk space.
The Setup program The Prodev Setup program is named according to the version of Prodev it contains. For instance if the version number of Prodev is 4023 then the Setup program will be named 'setup_4023.exe'. Prodev must be installed using its Setup program. This not only copies the Prodev program and associated files onto your computer but also checks for and adds library files to the Windows system folder. It also updates the Windows System registry. Simply copying the program files from one machine to another is not sufficient. Full supervisory rights are required during program setup. Online (web) installation You can obtain the Prodev Setup program from the download area of the IPS website at: www.propsys.com A username and password may be required, these can be obtained from IPS. Our contact details are set out on the back page of this manual. When you click on the download link you will be asked whether you wish to 'Run' or 'Save' the Setup program. If you choose 'Run' then setup will commence immediately following download. If you choose 'Save' then you will need to launch (double-click) the Setup program following download. Note: If at any time the message: 'publisher cannot be verified' (or similar) displays then ignore it and continue with the download. CD installation (if supplied) Insert the CD into the CD drive in your computer. With most Windows installations this will start to set up Prodev after a short pause while the CD spins up. Should setup not start automatically then use Windows Explorer and browse the CD drive (normally drive D:), locate the Setup program file and double-click on it. Running the Setup program Prodev setup needs to make system wide changes to your computer so it is essential that you are logged on in full supervisory mode prior to Prodev setup. Once running, the Setup program will ask a series of questions about your installation. If installing to a standalone computer then we recommend you follow all the suggested answers.
When the introduction/copyright screen displays click the 'Next' button. You will then be asked whether you wish to perform a 'Full Installation' or a 'Network-Client Only’ installation. Most Prodev installations will be on standalone computers and in this case choose the 'Full Installation' option. For Network setup see the section ‘Network Installation notes’ before proceeding. Note: This aspect of setup does not apply to trial copies of Prodev as these can only be installed in standalone mode.
Click 'Next' and Setup will prompt you for the nationality version that you wish to install, either ‘UK/Europe’ or ‘USA/North America’. Make sure you choose the appropriate version as the two versions are different and one version cannot read the other's data files (and vice versa). If in doubt choose ‘UK/Europe’.
Click 'Next' and Setup will then ask you where you wish to install the program. Unless you are installing it to a network server we suggest you use the suggested Drive and Folder (C:\Program Files\Prodev 4020 Series).
Prodev's installation routine will then run and tell you when it is complete. You will need to register Prodev before it can be used (see the section: Registering and Starting Prodev).
Removing Prodev To remove Prodev from your system use the Windows' Add/Remove Programs facility, available in the Windows Control Panel.
